Sanjay Gupta – Pure CBD Oil (Cannabis Oil)

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the latest celebrity to be “honored” by scammers using his name and likeness to push their product – in this case, cannabis oil.

DO NOT purchase this product based on these FAKE celebrity endorsements!

Scammers are peppering the internet with spam email sporting subject lines like, “CNNs Sanjay Gupta Discusses New Cannabis Pain Killer, Eye-Opening Report.” The link leads to a page that is designed to look like the CNN site but is actually “yourhealthylife.link”. (Remember to check the URLs on all of these sites as discussed in our article on spotting scams.)

The site features a video in which Gupta is discussing cannabis oil, but he is not promoting this particular product (again, reference our article on spotting scams.)

As with many other scam sites, the page features “testi-phonials” that look like they were made by Facebook users.

Not surprisingly, they are using the very same Facebook profiles that were pirated for a number of other scam sites. (Ah-hem… yeah, see our article on spotting scams and you’ll see that the young woman at the top of this list has been inundated by messages because her profile has been used on so many scam pages.

BEWARE THE TRIAL OFFER!! Ultimately, the links on the site lead to a page where customers can place an order for the “discounted” product. Unfortunately, as with many of these free or discounted trial offers, you pay for shipping (so they have your credit card) and they automatically sign you up for a monthly auto-ship auto-bill program. For most people, that means your card will be charged a second time long before  you realize what’s happening.

Always look for the small print that says “Terms” and that’s where you’ll find all of the dirty little secrets that can end up costing you a bundle.

In this case, the small print reads: “Pursuant to the terms of your purchase, we will begin billing your payment method a monthly purchase amount (together with other recurring charges, “monthly fee”) at the end of the free trial period unless you cancel prior to the end of the free trial period. Your payment method will thereafter be charged the agreed monthly fee on a recurring basis unless and until you cancel pursuant to the instructions linked below. We may authorize approximately one month of service as soon as you register and sign up for the free trial. ”

Whoa!
